From there, Herron was able to fine-tune the integration until it suited his desired outcomes. Here are the steps he took to develop the portal through ChatGPT:
- Asked ChatGPT to create a code for a new Service Portal widget
- Reviewed the first code and pasted it into ServiceNow
- Cleaned up the UI through additional prompts that fulfilled his desired look
- Reviewed API script information and found relevant errors to develop a functioning page with a working API response
- Continued to tidy up details to create a comprehensive interface, continuously inputting the code into ServiceNow
On top of creating a foundation for the ServiceNow Service Portal, ChatGPT was able to develop voice recognition in just minutes based on additional prompts. By experimenting with the system and learning the language of the chatbot, Herron developed a working portal in hours. While the development of this portal required best practices and expertise, ChatGPT provided a jumping point for developers to potentially utilize moving forward.
How to Use ChatGPT for Good
ChatGPT is a powerful chatbot that can help you find answers quickly and efficiently while providing an informational foundation for your desired outcomes. However, it’s important to remember that the AI does not know best practices and must be verified. It can be used to supplement your own knowledge and fill in knowledge gaps, but you will need to validate any piece of information it gives you.
Additionally, any code produced by the bot will not be ready for a production environment until it has been thoroughly reviewed and tested. While ChatGPT can be an excellent tool when used thoughtfully and proactively, it is essential to understand what the tool’s strengths and weaknesses are. At the end of the day, an AI chatbot can’t replace a team of certified ServiceNow experts and must be vetted to produce actionable results.
